I had a bad accident before I left for Morocco at the construction site of my new home. I slipped on unstable chunks of dirt and fell into a fire that had been burning for 3 hours. I got first and second degree burns on my hand, arm, and back. I’m telling you this because while I’m using my Canon R5 for many of the shots here in Morocco, sometimes it’s too painful to do so and I resort to using my iPhone 13 so I can give my skin a chance to heal and re-grow. Holding the heavier camera puts a lot of pressure on the wounds. I used the iPhone for this shot, and the inherent depth of field of the small aperture plus the wide angle lens mode produced an image that I liked a lot. I used the ripples in the sand as the dominant foreground while the camel train, which I’d arranged for my group, was the distant background. I took advantage of low angled sunlight to capture the pronounced texture and held the iPhone about 5 inches above the sand for a dramatic perspective.

Jim - Thanks very much, James. I won't be surprised if in 2 or 3 years Canon and Nikon may be in trouble because smart phones will be so good.

James R Steadman - Sorry to hear of your accident. I wish you a speedy recovery. The photo is terrific. I find myself using my phone more often than my cameras these days, unless I need a specific effect I can only achieve with the camera. Great work as always!

Linda Purdom - It is amazing how well a small camera, that can occasionally be used as a phone, can take such a big picture. What a great shot! Feel better soon:o)

Barbara Vickers - Jim, Sorry to hear of your accident. I'd been worried about you getting too close to the crocs, etc. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
