In the Masai Mara Conservancy in Kenya on my last photo tour there, we found this group of young cheetahs sitting close together. Unfortunately, it was late morning and the contrast from the midday sunlight wasn't ideal. In post-processing, I lightened the shadows and toned down the highlights to improve the scene. The biggest challenge, though, was the shallow depth of field from the 700mm of focal length I was shooting with. I was using a 500mm lens plus a 1.4x teleconverter. The two cats on the left were sharp because they were essentially on the same plane, but the cheetah on the right was a bit soft because he was sitting a foot or two closer to the camera. So, I took a second shot of the cat on the right in good focus and then, when I got home, I composited the two pictures together. The limitations of optics often interferes with what we see with our eyes, and Photoshop can solve many problems like this. My settings 1/1000, f/14, and 800 ISO.
