When I was in a Masai tribal village in Kenya a few years ago, I asked a young man how accurate he was with a spear. He said about 30 yards. I then asked him if I could photograph him throwing it, and this is the result. I used a wide angle lens and shot from a low angle specifically to include a huge portion of the dramatic sky to underscore the seemingly endless expanse of the East African plains. I took several images, and some of the frames showed the tip of the spear being obscured by the man’s head. In this shot, there is delineation between the two which, I feel, is important. My settings were 1/160, f/6.3, 200 ISO, and I took this with a 16-35mm lens set to 16mm.
