Most of the pictures I've taken during the White Horses of the Camargue photo workshop in France show horses running at the camera through a marsh. This is what I set up, and it's the most dynamic way to capture these beautiful animals. We did that today as well, but once in a while the horses bolt and take off in another direction, apparently tired of the 'splashing-in-the-water-for-the photographers" game. That's what's happening in this picture. Instead of running at our cameras, they raced across the scene in an attempt to escape from the Fence cowboys who were herding them. It was sort of comical, almost like little children trying to out run their parents as they laugh, knowing they have no way of winning but simply happy to be playing. This escape attempt gave us some very dynamic shots from the side. My settings were 1/1600, f/11, and 1000 ISO. The late afternoon light was beautiful, but the original sky was solid blue. I felt this was boring so I replaced it for added drama.
