I never seek out venomous snakes in the wild simply because it's too dangerous. This Bornean pit viper, however, was spotted on the grounds of my lodge in Borneo, and it remained motionless for hours. So, with a 400mm focal length, I felt comfortable in photographing it. The light was extremely low, however, and I took this picture handheld at 25,600 ISO with a Canon 1Dx Mark II. Using a tripod would have been the better option, but I was afraid of losing the shot by going back to my room and getting it. Neat Image software dealt with the noise extremely well, but there were still a few blotchy spots in the picture probably because I lightened the shadows quite a bit. To deal with these blemishes, I made a rough selection of each one with the lasso tool, feathered the edge of the selection 20 pixels, and then applied Filter > blur gallery > field blur. Magically, that solved the problem. My other settings were 1/80 and f/5.6.
