During my White Horses of the Camargue photo tour in France, we put two stallions together to capture, hopefully, a dynamic interaction between them. Usually we start them in the shallow water of a marsh, but sometimes their sparing gets pretty heated and they move to the land where the action is no less exciting. What you’re hoping for is graphically bold body language, flying manes, and wild-eyed expressions. The shutter speed I used was determined by tests to insure all aspects of the horses were sharp despite the furious motion. I added the stormy sky for drama and played with contrast and clarity in post-processing to add a gritty texture to the scene. My settings were 1/1250, f/6.3, and 500 ISO. I used a 100-400mm Canon zoom for the shot. My next photo tour to photograph these stunning horses is May, 2023.
