Another unique and photogenic animal we had in the frog and reptile workshop is this white panther chameleon. I had never seen one before -- we have new species every workshop. Whenever you photograph a white subject, special care has to be taken to prevent overexposure, and this is particularly true when using flash. I replaced the background with an out of focus image of foliage from my files, and that entailed selecting not only the chameleon but also the compound branch. I did this with the quick selection tool in Photoshop in conjunction with the lasso tool. The whole selection process took about 45 seconds. I then use Select > inverse grab only the background, feathered the selection by one pixel, and then pasted in the new background with Edit > paste special > paste into. I used a ring flash for the exposure, and my settings were f/32, 1/200, 400 ISO, and I captured this with a 50mm macro lens.
